Een aantal maanden geleden heeft Microsoft laten weten dat ze gaan stoppen met Windows Live Messenger en de dienst te integreren in Skype wat ook een product van Microsoft is. De applicatie was sinds juni 2010 beschikbaar voor het iOS platform.
Microsoft heeft de applicatie direct uit de App Store gehaald en kan dan ook niet meer gebruikt worden op iOS devices. Microsoft zal definitief op 15 maart stoppen met de Windows Live Messenger applicatie, gebruikers kunnen wel inloggen met dezelfde gegevens op Skype.
Recent stuurde het bedrijf al een bericht naar alle huidige gebruikers van Windows Live Messenger met het verzoek om over te stappen op Skype en uitleg over hoe dit het makkelijkst gedaan kan worden. Tot 15 maart zal Windows Live Messenger actief blijven.

Update to Skype and sign in using a Microsoft Account (same as your Messenger ID) and all your Messenger contacts will be at your fingertips. You’ll be able to instant message and video chat with them just like before, and also discover new ways of staying in touch with Skype on your mobile and tablet.
