Microsoft is van plan om meerdere Lumia smartphones toegang te geven tot de preview van Windows 10. Met de volgende update van de preview versie wordt het mogelijk om voor meerdere Lumia smartphones de update te installeren. Windows 10 is het nieuwe OS welke ook beschikbaar komt voor de smartphones.
Microsoft heeft de afgelopen tijd veel individuele smartphones getest op compatibiliteit van Windows 10. Hierdoor wordt de update voor een groot aantal smartphones beschikbaar bij de eerst volgende update. Volgens Microsoft moet de benodigde update ergens in de komende tijd uitkomen.

De lijst welke Microsoft heeft gepubliceerd is een voorlopige lijst. Als er tijdens het testproces nog bugs worden gevonden kan het zijn dat een toestel wordt geschrapt van de lijst. Ook kunnen er uiteraard nog nieuwe toestellen bij komen. De eerste versie van Windows 10 verscheen op 12 februari voor de smartphones.
